Apologies.... since the last blog I've challenged and experienced but not blogged. See I told you that it would be the hardest.. Sooooooooo BID in an action... I sure did :) but not successfully. No, No I did get what I bid for but not in exactly the same way as I thought.
It started that my Mum took me to the Maidstone auction and yes it was amazing!!! Lots of fun. The hall was huge, let's say 10,000sf, full of "One man's junk and another treasures" as they say. The auction starts at 10, so before hand you scout around looking, digging and tripping over anything you find interesting enough, bizarre to bid on. Then the bidding starts at 10. So you can stay and get addicted to putting your hand in the air, way past your before made bid or leave a bid and if no one bids to that price you get the item.
A few items caught my eye but living in Hk and shipping, a four poster bed, an old football table game, an airplane clock seemed a little far fetched, even if I am married to the postman :) (He's in logistic's but my family and his, and his, before I get phone calls. Post everything through his company, when I say post I mean the company pick it up and deliver it to us. ANywayyyyyyy) So these items I loved and would have filled my UK home with if I lived there but not suitable for my HK apartment.
So then a pair of old cinema chairs caught my eye. Beautiful.... unique.. quirky and soooooo suitable for HK. Folding up and down how much sace they would save. As long as my husband didn't know they were coming. So there was my item..... they were in the middle of the hall, so even though I waited and struggled not to throw my hand in the air ever second for something else. (I'm sure someone must have an addiction on just bidding for things, an adrenalin kick from nearly getting them item at 10pounds, but just letting someone save them with an 11pounder) I resisted and just watched. After an hour my chairs were far from their turn, so instead I left a bid and would call back later. My mother put down a bid on a carpet, 2 plates and some pictures. Later we would call in and see if we had won the bid for all the items.
Excitement for the rest of the day and no money spend in case I did have those chairs. ekkkkkkk.
We called back later and, and we have plates, carpet and pictures.... NO CHAIRS. Drat I knew that same sexed couple would beat me on the bid, unless I was there to battled it out. My mum gave me the plates instead. Consolation prize.
BUT now I am hooked. Not on the auction although I would defiantly be back. The CHAIRS, I was hooked to those chairs being in my flat in HK and everyone, even my husband after a while saying... WOW what a great idea....
So I e-bayed!!!!! Wrong, Wrong Wrong, Wrong. How was I to know if you placed a bid higher then the last, the item is yours within seconds if the seller things it's high enough and without a "ARE YOU SURE" message popping up.. ermmmm Plus there were loads more chairs for a more expensive price. Reality sets in and now I have chairs, (Not paid for) that I can only ship to HK for double the cost of the chairs I would have to pay!!!! WHen the seller contacted me to say "Congrats, Thanks and how would you like these shipped" ooppps, where is the go back button. Plus in the meantime my mother telling my husband about the crazy but quirky chairs I was going to buy. Not a great reaction from him. Hmm partly because I had not realized they would have to be screwed to the floor or wall to stay standing and there was no way he was to even consider letting them in through our door. So all I can say is SORRY e-bay seller and I will pay the 10pounds e-bay selling fee but I don't want the chairs.
